Mold Removal

Mold remediation (or mold removal) is a term for the clean-up and removal of mold, particularly the toxic types, from an enclosed living space. Oftentimes, homeowners will see a small area of mold and believe that they can remove it on their own.  However in many cases what you see on the outside of a piece of drywall can be an indicator that there is a larger problem lurking underneath. Mold remediation is not an easy task to perform. Once an area has been identified as a toxic mold problem, there are several steps that must be taken to not only remove the mold, but to prevent it from reappearing. The mold remediation expert that you hire will need to alleviate the conditions that were the cause of the mold growth and then perform the mold clean up.
Mold growth is caused by moisture levels within the environment where it is present. The first step in mold remediation is determining what is causing the moisture and allowing the mold to thrive since mold can grow within 24 – 48 hours of moisture being present. It is important to alleviate whatever is causing the moisture, or to control and decrease the humidity with the use of dehumidifiers or increased air ventilation. There is no point in removing the mold if the initial causes are not properly dealt with.  It is of the utmost importance that anyone working on the clean-up site is properly protected. Before starting any mold remediation work, we seal off and isolate the affected areas.  Air scrubbers are installed to prevent the unnecessary spread of mold spores which can easily travel through your home or office if not properly contained.

Mold releases spores when it is disturbed, which is why protective measures are so important during the remediation process. Depending upon the situation, we employ a variety of techniques such as encapsulation, application of an anti-microbial treatment, sanding, and other methods.  We have all the necessary equipment from wet vacuums, to thermal imaging cameras to moisture meters to HEPA vacuums as well as the proper chemicals and disbursement equipment to treat your problem areas.

Depending upon the size of the affected area, mold remediation can take anywhere from just a few hours to several days. Some remediation requires the removal of affected items, such as drywall or possibly even cabinets.  All areas are thoroughly dried before we remove any protective sealing from an area that has been cleaned. This helps to stop mold particles from re-entering the area and starting to grow all over again while it is still damp.  Our air scrubbers are capable of capturing virtually every removable airborne particle and we may run them for 24 to 48 hours after treatment of the affected areas and removal of contaminated items.
